Helen Kerr RUA  lives and works with her husband Richard Croft in Dundrum Co Down. Helen has translated the patterns and textures she has discovered in the Mourne area into the threaded textures of her appliqués and hand- dyed batiks which is echoed in this chosen medium.Batik, which originated in the far east, is an ancient art of creating a design in fabric using wax and dye. In the batik process, as each dye is put onthe fabric it is sealed when dry with molten wax. The wax thus resists the subsequent dyes. The process is then continued slowly until the fabric with its pattern of dyes is entirely covered with the wax. Then the wax is removed and the fabric cleaned, now ready as an artwork though it is often enhanced with machine or hand stitch

Here Helen has depicted a view of a Mourne Field capturing a typical Mourne dwelling, Iconic Moune dry stone walls and of course the well known outline of the Mournes in response to Autumn walks in the Mournes
